Holiday Window Displays NYC 2021

December 3, 2021 | 3 min Read

‘Tis the season and accordingly it feels that the entire city is swathed in wreaths, lights and holiday well wishes. From the grand Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree to the jeweled department store windows to ice skating in Central Park, there’s nothing like the holidays in New York.

No holiday season would be complete without a jaunt down 5th avenue to see some of the legendary holiday window displays. Each year, flagship department stores pull out all the stops to make jaw droppingly beautiful window displays that bring the magic of the holidays to life. This year is no exception.

To start, we recommend walking along 5th Avenue from Central Park toward Herald Square. You can take in some of the best lights and outdoor displays, including the dazzling Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree on your way to the windows.

Bloomingdales

Bloomies window displays this year are inspired by the theme of “Give Happy.” The Lexington Avenue windows are a myriad of colors and themes ranging from nostalgia to holiday fantasy with characters such as robots, penguins and skateboarding dinosaurs. The very first window is a selfie robot display that encourages viewers to grab their cameras and join in the fun.

Macy’s

Macy’s has been creating its iconic window displays since 1874, bringing the spirit of the holidays to life. For 2021 it’s not about the destination, but the journey. Macy’s windows will feature a celebration of personal discovery and triumph over adversity through the story of a reindeer, Tiptoe who helps Santa Claus bring joy to millions of children. But, before she could launch her epic adventure, she had to believe she could do it. Tiptoe serves as a reminder to us all to believe in our dreams this holiday season!

Bergdorf Goodman

Bergdorf Goodman chose to focus on the ‘present’ this holiday season, The Present Moment, that is. The theme communicates the joy of coming together for the holidays and sharing memorable moments. The windows and theme were inspired by the many separations during the pandemic. Window designer David Hoey crafted the display to be an opulent celebration, fit for the iconic luxury department store. Dazzling in their colors, light and creativity, the Bergdorf Goodman windows are not to be missed.

Saks 5th Avenue

For the 2021 holiday season Saks 5th Avenue window displays will showcase the hopes, dreams and aspirations of New York area children. The theme of the display is Dreaming of… and features the Girls Opportunity Alliance, an Obama Foundation Program. Saks reached out to NYC area children and asked “what they dream of doing with loved ones for the holidays.” The responses are incorporated into the holiday windows, inspired by themes of connection and family. In addition to the windows, this year Saks will have over 700,000 LED lights that change colors and shapes with pre-programmed Christmas carols.
