A Memorable January Day in New York

January 6, 2023 | 4 min Read

There’s never a dull moment in New York. Even the week after New Years’ has plenty to do. We’ve got a selection of fun exhibits, activities and festivals that are happening this month. Read on to find the perfect way to create a memorable January day in the Big Apple.

Titanic: The Exhibition

The hotly anticipated Titanic: The Exhibition has officially opened in New York. The moving show brings visitors face to face with artifacts from both those who perished and survivors of the unsinkable ship. These objects are used to tell stories and give a personal look into some of the passengers’ lives including the couple who inspired the famous movie, Titanic. One of the most talked about objects of the show is the necklace that belonged to Kate Phillips, a then 19-year old who was in love with an older married English trader. The two booked tickets in pseudonyms and were seen on the boat madly in love in the days before the fateful morning of April 15, 1912 when the ship hit an iceberg.

Tickets are on sale now through the end of January 2023.

Rooftop Ice Skating

Not bothered by the cold? Then what better way to spend an afternoon with a trip to one of New York’s famous ice rinks. This week try out the rink at The William Vale, where the 23rd floor has been transformed into a scenic, sky-high ice skating rink. The views are epic and the open air rink is made not of ice but of the more environmentally friendly, Glice. Glice is a synthetic technology that doesn’t require the waste of water and is slightly kinder to beginner ice skaters.

Guests are required to make reservations in advance to allow for reduced capacity during skate sessions (50 minutes per group) See link above for tickets.

A second exhibit, “Beyond the Light: Identity and Place in Nineteenth-Century Danish Art,” which opens later this month (January 26-April 16, 2023) will showcase 100 drawings, sketches and paintings from the Danish Golden Age.
