This year, the 4th of July fireworks in NYC are unlike any before them. The 2026 show marks the 50th anniversary of the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks, and it lands on America’s 250th birthday, two milestones the city will never see align again. The result is the most ambitious display in the event’s history, spread across more of New York and New Jersey than ever before. It also means crowds, closures, and a great many moving parts. A well-placed home base is what makes the night feel easy instead of exhausting, and The Lombardy’s Midtown East address puts you minutes from Grand Central, quick transit to every viewing area, and a quiet suite to return to once the smoke clears. For a holiday-weekend stay, our special rates and packages are a good place to begin.
What Makes the 2026 Macy’s Fireworks Different From Every Other Year
The 50th annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks launches on Saturday, July 4, 2026, with the pyrotechnics beginning at roughly 9:25 PM ET once the sky is fully dark. For the first time in the show’s history, fireworks will launch simultaneously from three locations: the lower East River near the South Street Seaport, the lower Hudson River in collaboration with Jersey City, and the Brooklyn Bridge itself, firing from six barges and the bridge together.
That dual-river, multi-borough format is entirely new, and it means more neighborhoods across Manhattan, Brooklyn, and New Jersey will have a clear, unobstructed view than in any previous year. The bridge also gains a new laser show synchronized to the display. In all, the show sends more than 85,000 shells skyward in 30 colors across about 25 minutes, making it the largest single display the event has staged.
Live coverage and pre-show entertainment begin at 8:00 PM on NBC and Peacock, with a Spanish-language simulcast on Telemundo. This year’s performers include Noah Kahan, Post Malone, Salt-N-Pepa, Bebe Rexha, Shaboozey, and Blake Shelton. The fireworks themselves are set to a 27-minute score from Grammy Award-winning composer Jason Howland, featuring a live vocal by Alexia Jayy, the most recent winner of The Voice.
The Best Viewing Areas for 2026
Because the show now spans both rivers, the single most useful rule this year is to pick one side and stay on it. Cross-town movement on the evening of the 4th will be slower than ever. Macy’s and the city finalize the official designated viewing zones close to the date, so confirm the current details on the official Macy’s fireworks page before you set out. Here is how the main options compare.
1. Brooklyn Bridge Park
Brooklyn Bridge Park sits directly across from the East River barges with clean sightlines to the bridge, which makes it one of the prime spots in the city. For 2026, the entire park is a ticketed area: free tickets are issued by lottery, and ticket holders enter beginning at 4:00 PM through the two main entrances at Pier 1 (Old Fulton Street) and Pier 3 (Atlantic Avenue). The lottery and release timing are handled through Macy’s and the city, so check the official page above for the current link.
Best for: all audiences, families, couples · Free, ticketed by lottery
2. Pier 16 and Pier 17 at the South Street Seaport
The South Street Seaport District offers waterfront viewing directly in front of the East River barge zone. Designated free ticketed sections are typically set aside at the piers, and Pier 17’s rooftop hosts a separate ticketed event with premium views over the water. Availability and ticketing for these vary year to year, so confirm before the date.
Best for: all audiences; premium options for couples and groups
3. Lower Manhattan Waterfront and the FDR
The waterfront and greenway along the Lower East Side give you free, street-level viewing with open East River sightlines, no ticket required. Expect street closures in the surrounding area at NYPD discretion, generally bounded by Grand Street, Catherine Street, South Street and the FDR, and East Broadway. Arrive by around 6:00 PM to claim a good spot.
Best for: budget-conscious visitors, all audiences · Free, no ticket
4. Jersey City Waterfront
The Hudson River expansion turns the Jersey side into one of the best new vantage points for 2026. Liberty State Park and the Exchange Place waterfront deliver wide, open views of the Lower Hudson fireworks with the Manhattan skyline rising behind them. It is reachable by PATH train from Midtown or by NYC Ferry from Lower Manhattan, and it tends to feel less packed than the Manhattan-side areas.
Best for: a wide skyline view with room to breathe
5. Empire State Building Observation Deck
The Empire State Building runs a ticketed Fourth of July experience on its 86th-floor observation deck, with food, drinks, and live music during the evening window. It is the rare guaranteed, elevated, unobstructed view, and at roughly a six-minute walk from The Lombardy, it is among the most convenient premium options for our guests. Capacity is limited and the higher tiers sell out first, so book directly through the building if it appeals.
Best for: couples, groups, anyone wanting a guaranteed view
Timing: When to Arrive and When to Leave
Show begins: Approximately 9:25 PM ET, running about 25 minutes
Broadcast: NBC and Peacock from 8:00 PM; Telemundo simulcast
Free waterfront: Arrive 5:00 to 6:00 PM; areas fill by 7:00 PM
Brooklyn Bridge Park: Ticketed entry from 4:00 PM
The pre-show on NBC and Peacock starts at 8:00 PM, which makes watching the entertainment from your suite before heading out a smart move. For the free waterfront areas, plan to be in place between 5:00 and 6:00 PM, since the best sightlines fill quickly after 7:00. Ticketed Brooklyn Bridge Park guests can enter from 4:00 PM, and the Empire State Building experience runs through the evening into the close of the show.
When it ends, the whole city tries to leave at once. Expect crowded subway platforms and slow sidewalks from about 10:00 PM to midnight. For our guests, the simplest exit is to stay near Midtown or simply walk back to the hotel rather than fight the first wave underground.
Transit Tips for Getting There and Back
The first rule is the easiest: do not drive. The streets around every viewing area close, and parking near them effectively disappears. From The Lombardy, the practical routes are short.
- To the South Street Seaport: take the 4 or 5 train from Grand Central, a three-block walk from the hotel, down to Fulton Street. About 15 minutes.
- To Brooklyn Bridge Park: take the 4 or 5 from Grand Central to Borough Hall in Brooklyn. About 20 minutes.
- To the Jersey City waterfront: take the PATH from 33rd Street, one stop from Grand Central, to Exchange Place. About 25 minutes.
For fares, the subway now runs on OMNY: tap a contactless credit or debit card, Apple Pay, or Google Pay directly at the turnstile, as the MetroCard is being phased out. After the finale, platforms stay packed from 10:00 PM to midnight. If you are staying near Midtown, you can walk back from the Seaport along the East River Greenway in roughly 45 minutes, or simply wait 30 to 45 minutes before boarding. It is worth checking mta.info for any July 4th service advisories closer to the date. For guests at The Lombardy, the Empire State Building and the Lower Manhattan areas are the most transit-friendly from East 56th Street.
What to Bring and What to Leave Behind
Pack light and plan for a long evening. Bring comfortable shoes, a layer for after dark, a portable phone charger, water, and a contactless card or phone for the subway. Leave behind anything bulky: backpacks larger than a standard daypack, lawn chairs, and large coolers are not permitted in the designated viewing areas, and the NYPD conducts bag checks at the entrances. Before you head out, the concierge can help with directions, timing, and any last-minute logistics.
Watch It From Your Room or Plan Around It
Not every great view requires a crowd. The full broadcast airs on NBC and streams on Peacock from 8:00 to 10:00 PM ET, so guests who would rather skip the sidewalks can take in the entire show from the comfort of a suite. The Lombardy’s spacious, apartment-style rooms and suites make an evening in feel like its own kind of celebration, and for those building the fireworks into a longer holiday weekend, our special rates and packages reward a longer stay.
What Guests Are Saying About The Lombardy
On a high-energy holiday like the 4th, what guests value most is the same thing that makes any New York trip easier: room to breathe and a location that keeps the city close without keeping you in the thick of it.
The entire experience for my family and me exceeded our expectations. The rooms were clean and spacious. The rooms had an at home feel. All the amenities we needed, plus some extras. The best part of the stay was the people working there. It started prior to booking: they were very responsive to all my questions, and everything they told me actually happened. Check-in was seamless, and the folks at the desk were friendly and informative. Throughout our stay, they answered questions and offered advice. Our stay was at a 5-star hotel with service that was second to none. Thank you for making 4 days perfect in NYC.

Had an amazing stay! We had a Terrace Suite and it did not disappoint. Huge living area. My 5 year old daughter was pleased as they brought her her own little bed. From top to bottom this place was extremely clean and the customer service was excellent. We will definitely stay again on a future visit!
