Where You Might Find Superheroes in NYC

June 23, 2019 | 4 min Read

We are not gonna lie, the best thing about visiting NYC is knowing you can sleep peacefully because Spider-Man is out there fighting the bad guys. But seriously, NYC has become one the most important pop culture destinations in the world. And with a great popularity, comes great responsibility.

If you are interested in visiting those places where fiction took on life and normal people have become beacons of light in the dark, we have listed a few you can check out. Disclaimer: if you run into a superhero fight, we are not held responsible.

Chrysler Building

Ranked one of the top 100 tallest buildings in the world, the Chrysler Building is perfect for hero scenes. The 61st floor of the Chrysler Building is well known for having metal eagle decorations that plenty of superheros have used as a resting spot or for some vigilante work. We especially enjoyed the Chrysler Building’s cameo in the first Avengers movie where Thor used the steel based building to create a giant bolt of lightning. Talk about using your settings for your advantage.

JP Morgan Building

Action doesn’t always happen on the streets. Sometime it’s the inside that matters. Such is the case of the JP Morgan Building. For the 2012 movie, The Dark Knight Rises used the JP Morgan Chase World Headquarters as a stage for the Gotham Stock Exchange. This building is shown at two different times in the movie: first when anarchist villain, Bane, drains Bruce Wayne’s bank account and second, where Bane and Batman have their final battle.

Staten Island Ferry

As one of the last remaining traces of the NYC ferry system, not only will you be visiting an important historical place in NYC, but you will also be taking the ferry that Spider-Man and Iron Man saved during the 2017 film Spider-Man: Homecoming. This intense fight against the villain, the Vulture left one of the ferries split in half! Thankfully, no one was harmed. Take this free ferry and enjoy all the cool sights from New York at the same time. (The ferry will only get split in half by a villain if you are very, very unlucky.)

Paramount Building

This beautiful building was the main headquarters for one of the biggest major American motion pictures back in the 1920s. So, it’s only logical that it has been featured in a lot of superhero movies for the last 80 years. It has especially been part of the Superman family for different media. Most noticeably, they used the facade as an inspiration for the Daily Planet building, but later on they used bits and pieces from the inside for the Smallville series and the 1978’s Superman film.

Grand Central Station

As one of the most traveled stations in the world, the Grand Central Station has seen plenty of famous superhero faces. It made a special appearance in the original X-men movie, where the X-men and the Brotherhood of Mutants have a huge fight. It was also the hideout for the Superman villain Lex Luthor’s lair. And if that wasn’t enough, the Avengers also fought Loki’s army of Chitauri in this Station. Can someone give New York a break?
