New York City is known for its vibrant summer scene and one of the most enjoyable traditions is the outdoor movie screenings in the city’s iconic parks. As the warm weather sweeps through the city, locals and visitors alike gather under the starry night sky to enjoy a cinematic treat in the heart of nature. In this blog, we’ll explore the magical world of movies in the parks in New York City this summer.

Bryant Park Movie Nights

Every Monday night this summer, Midtown’s Bryant Park is transformed into a cinematic paradise. The Bryant Park Movie Nights series offers a curated selection of classic and contemporary films, inviting movie enthusiasts to bring their blankets, settle in on the lawn, and enjoy a delightful cinematic experience. The park’s central location, coupled with its iconic surroundings (NYPL for one) makes it a favorite destination. Movies will be shown through August 14. The lawn opens at 5 and movies start at 8pm. Rooftop Films

Rooftop Films takes the concept of outdoor movies to new heights, quite literally. With screenings held in various locations across the city, this unique series showcases independent films, documentaries, and shorts on rooftops, against the breathtaking backdrop of the New York City skyline. From charming rooftop gardens to industrial buildings with stunning views, Rooftop Films provides a one-of-a-kind movie experience that combines film, music, and the vibrant spirit of the city. Rooftop films also offers funding for burgeoning filmmakers. $1 of every ticket sold and every film submission fee is used to fund as well as provide service grants from our partner organizations. Movies Under the Stars NYCPD

Each summer the New York City Parks Department presents the Movies Under the Stars series, featuring screenings in parks throughout the five boroughs. From Central Park to Prospect Park, attendees can revel in the beauty of nature while immersing themselves in a wide range of films, including family favorites, cult classics, and recent blockbusters. With each park offering a unique ambiance, these outdoor movie nights are perfect for a relaxed evening with loved ones. Brooklyn Bridge Park Movies with a View

Movies with a View outdoor film series returns for its 23rd season under the scenic Brooklyn Bridge. Celebrating the theme of “We Are Family”, movies all relate to the concept of family, although not all may be kid friendly. Food and drink will be available for purchase through Time Out Market. Other perks include music by DJ’s curated from Brooklyn Radio, film shorts curated by BAM Film, and bike valet parking provided by Transportation Alternatives. Films are on Thursdays running from July 6th- August 24th. Green opens at 6pm, movies start around 8pm. Arrive early to secure a place.

Paramount+ Movie Nights in Brooklyn

This summer, join Brooklyn Magazine for a relaxing outdoor movie experience at Fort Greene Park and Prospect Park. Paramount+ and Brooklyn Magazine, in collaboration with Borough President Antonio Reynoso and the Fort Greene Park Conservancy are setting the stage for an exciting lineup of films under the stars. The series runs from June 29-July 20. Afterwards it migrates to Prospect Park for the remainder of July until August 16. The summer movie series will feature nostalgic classics and feel-good favorites for all ages. Grab a blanket, and a picnic and kick back to watch great cinema and take in two of Brooklyn’s world-class parks. Films are free of charge and take place Thursdays in Fort Greene Park and Wednesday evenings in Prospect Park and begin around 8pm or dusk.
