It’s officially nearing the end of August and that means school vacations are close to ending, even if the good weather isn’t. In fact, September has some of the best weather in New York City, since it isn’t too hot and humid, yet hasn’t really started raining yet.

Free Carousel Rides at Prospect Park


During the month of August, Prospect Park is giving away free carousel rides on their historic carousel. Prospect Park is the most famous park in Brooklyn. Apart from the carousel, Prospect Park has several lakes, a river, and miles of walking and bike parks. Next to the carousel, you’ll find the Prospect Park Zoo, which is another great option for the whole family.

NYPD Community Fair


Meet New York City’s finest up close and personal at this community fair. It can be just to introduction your police officer- loving daughter or son has been looking for. And they’ll also have music giveaways to make it a little extra fun.

Battle of Brooklyn Neighborhood Walk


Learn about a battle that happened right on our very doorsteps…over 200 years ago. While the battle was a victory for the British army, we all know how the Revolutionary War ended. See the path of the battle, where the main defenses were, and how it impacted the city on this walking tour through Prospect Park and Park Slope Neighborhood. Walking shoes are highly recommended.

Piano in Bryant Park - Frank Owens


Mondays don’t have to be so bad. Bryant Park is making sure of that by bringing jazz, ragtime, and stride pianists to perform every week this summer. This week you can find Frank Owens, the pianist, arranger, composer, and musical director known for The David Letterman Show, The Wiz, and several BBC Show of the Weeks.

Bryant Park Shakespeare Macbeth


Where else can you find a full production of Shakespeare for free with no tickets or dress code needed? This version of the famous Macbeth is supposed to be Gangs of New York-esque, so come ready to relax and enjoy.
