Late June Events in the Big Apple 2023

June 21, 2023 | 4 min Read

This week in our blog we have four fun, thought provoking activities and one delicious event to pass the rest of the month of June in New York City. Read on to learn what’s going in New York right now and how to get in on the action!

Eat at Pizza Fest

This summer, a new pizza festival is set to spoil New Yorkers and visitors alike with craft pizza slices from 35 of the world’s best pizzerias. Luckily for us, the festival, hosted by TF Cornerstone, Caputo’s Market & Deli, and Lavazza Coffee Company lasts for 8 weeks! This means 8 opportunities to try different pizzas made by unique and determined pizza chefs from around the world. Participants are rumored to be among the best in the business. But you get to be the final judge!

The event will take place in the waterfront park Hunter’s Point South Park in Long Island City. In addition to pizza slices for purchase, Pizza Fest will have five cooking stations, pizza-making classes, live music and more. Pizza Fest times are weekdays from 4pm to 10pm and weekends from 1 to 10pm. Admission is free, but tickets are required for food and drinks. Proceeds will be donated to the Mayor’s Fund to Advance New York City.

Immerse Yourself in Images from NASA

A new immersive art show in Chelsea is bringing the space images of NASA to New York. Images from the James Webb Space Telescope will be on display at ARTECHOUSE in an exhibit titled, Beyond the Light. ARTECHOUSE worked with NASA to interpret data about the universe and bring it to life in high resolution images that create an experiential storytelling event. The experience aims to inspire curiosity and ask the question: what else is possible? General admission starts at $25.

Think Environmentally

At first look, artist Beverly Barkat’s 13 foot sculpture is a beautiful globe with brilliant illumination provided from light streaming through its hollow center, but a closer look enables visitors to see that the impressive sculpture is in fact made up of discarded plastic bags, bottles, cups and other plastics. Barkat worked with conservationists from around the world who sent her locally sourced plastic waste for the sculpture titled: Earth Poetica. The result is 180 colorful panels that simulate the globe and remind viewers that the oceans are choking under the growing plastic masses of plastics. The piece is on display at the World Trade Center through November.

Catch a Movie Under the Stars at Bryant Park

You know it’s summer in New York when the movies take place under the night sky. The popular Movie Nights series returns to Bryant Park with a new partner: Paramount+. The streaming division of Paramount+ is pledging its support to the summer movie series, bringing weeks of great cinema to the park for free. And what’s a good movie without snacks? Guests can nosh on food and drink provided by the Hester Street Fair, which will host a pop-up artisanal market each Monday at Bryant Park.

Movies will be shown Monday nights through August 14. The lawn opens at 5 and movies start at 8pm. For a full schedule, see Bryant Park’s website. This week the park is showing Mean Girls.
