Fall is in the air! The crackle of crisp leaves underfoot and the cozy scent that lingers in the air is intertwined with New England fall. This week in our blog we have two super hip items happening and one timeless annual activity.
Fleurs de Villes FEMMES
Starting this weekend, flowers of all kinds, in quantities you probably never dreamed you’d see in one place, will transform into beyond-lifesize (10+ ft tall) sculptures of phenomenal women who have graced our history. Sixteen floral arrangements will create this beautiful ode to women called Fleurs de Villes FEMMES. Each arrangement or sculpture will invoke a single woman. Women represented include: Billie Holiday, Queen Elizabeth II, Frida Kahlo and Malala Yousafzai. See the event website for a complete listing. FEMMES is a free event and will take place at The Shops at Hudson Yards.

New York Film Festival
The New York Film Festival is perhaps lesser known than the Tribeca Film Festival, but it brings out some equally impressive films with cultural cache. This year will mark the 60th year of the NY Film Festival. A variety of films will be shown across the five boroughs.
Must see films include White Noise, an adaptation of Don DeLillo’s eponymous 1985 novel that stars Adam Driver and Greta Gerwig; All the Beauty and Bloodshed, a documentary film by Academy Award-winner Laura Poitras that follows the public outcry against pharmaceutical companies and their role in the opioid epidemic in America, and the life and works of artist Nan Goldin, who was an outspoken critic and campaigned against big pharma; Armageddon Time, a film that has received critical praise and follows the friendship of two boys, one white, one black in the 1980s in Queens.
These are of course just a few of the exciting and engaging films showing throughout the festival. For screening times and locations see the festival’s website.

Leaf Peeping
New York in autumn is a visual feast. Throughout the cities many parks, big and small, showstopping changes in color abound. It’s a perfect time of year for photoshoots, or picnic lunches in the park. Whatever your plans, they’re sure to be augmented with the autumn colors. Here are a few of our favorite spots.
1. Fort Tryon Park
Fort Tryon Park offers a vast walking grounds that include the Cloisters, and Heather Garden and Linden Terrace, one of the highest natural points in Manhattan. From this perch you can take in a scenic vista toward the Hudson River Palisades with its 20 miles of cliffs that will be covered in autumnal gold and amber.

2. Greenbelt Nature Center
The Greenbelt Nature Center in Staten Island is composed of a whopping 2,800 acres of interconnected open space and 35 miles of trails. For a panoramic view of the treetops that are certain to be dazzling in their color, take the Yellow trail and stop at Moses’ Mountain. The park and forestlands within the nature center should also be vibrant this time of year.

3. Fall Foliage Brunch Cruise
There’s nothing quite like floating down the Hudson gazing out at the trees with their leaves ablaze. An extra bonus of the brunch cruise is that you can enjoy the sights with a mimosa and a hearty brunch aboard the Grand Palisades Fall Foliage Cruise. The 2.5- 3.5 hour cruises promise lots of photo ops and if you catch a chill, there’s a heated indoor area. In addition to nature’s fireworks, you’ll pass by iconic landmarks such as the George Washington Bridge, the Cloisters, the Palisades and more. See the company’s website for more information.
4. Central Park
It would be remiss not to mention Central Park, the city’s crown jewel when it comes to fall foliage. This gem is vast in its sprawling space and in its variety of trees and colors. Try the Ramble in the middle of the park and check out a spot known as Tupelo Meadow. Here you’ll see a large Tupelo tree and leaves in a rich variety of shades or orange and reds and purple.
These are just a few of the many, many parks and open spaces in the city that boast brillant show of natural fireworks this time of year.
