Family Friendly NYE Activities in New York City
Now that Christmas Day has passed, the next big day to plan for is New Year’s Eve. While the ball drop in Times Square is a classic and fills the dreams of millions of visitors, it’s just not a very realistic option for most people, especially families with children. Here are some fun options that the whole family can enjoy during your NYE stay in New York City.
#1 Watch Fireworks From The Brooklyn Bridge Walk Into The New Year
Not only is the Brooklyn Bridge a wonderful place to see fireworks burst up all over the city at midnight, it is the finale in a tour that starts at 160 Broadway and explores the World Trade Center Grounds and City Hall Park. It’s a great way for your family to learn a little more about this great city and enjoy a panoramic view of the NYE fireworks.
Where: Tour starts at 160 Broadway (45 min drive from The Lombardy Hotel) and ends at the Brooklyn Bridge (35 min drive from The Lombardy Hotel)
When: December 31, 2017 at 10:30 – 12 am
#2 Watch Fireworks Over the Water On The Staten Island Ferry
There are many options to sail around the harbor, but the Staten Island Ferry is the free option. All you need to do is arrive early enough to get a seat. Your kids will love enjoying a night cruise with the added perk of midnight fireworks in each area of NYC as you go past.
Where: Whitehall Terminal, Manhattan (30 min drive from The Lombardy Hotel) or St. George Terminal, Staten Island
When: Daily, with ferries leaving every half hour
#3 Spectate At A Midnight Run And Fireworks In Central Park
While you and your kids might not want to spend New Year’s Eve on a 4 mile run, it can sure be fun to watch! Especially because the New York Road Runners who host it love to dress up in crazy costumes and, like all good things, it all starts with dancing. As always on NYE, don’t miss the fireworks at the end! You can see them from just about everywhere in the park.
Where: South of 72nd St., in Central Park (20 min walk from The Lombardy Hotel)
When: Race starts at 11pm and Fireworks at Midnight
#4 Listen To Music At The Concert For Peace
This is a great option if you would like to get to your hotel before it gets too late. The Cathedral Church of Saint John the Divine would love to welcome you to this peaceful, candle-lit event. While you can purchase tickets for special seating, there are plenty of seats that are free to the general public.
Where: 1047 Amsterdam Avenue at 112th St., Manhattan
When: December 31, 2017 at 7pm – 9pm
#5 Feast at The American Cut Steakhouse, Midtown
If your kids are a little older and have fine tastes, then you can take them to this spectacular steakhouse, located in The Lombardy Hotel. The restaurant has created a special New Year’s Eve menu that includes delights such as Filet Mignon, Tuna Tartare, and Caramelized White Chocolate Cheesecake. It’s not a meal your family will forget anytime soon.
Where: The Lombardy Hotel; 109 E 56th St., New York
When: December 31, 2017
