This week, we’ve dedicated our blog to activities for the adrenaline junkies among us. From climbing skyscrapers to parkour, we’ve got a class or activity to get the heart racing! There’s something adventurous for everyone in New York!
NB: It’s best to check with individual venus regarding Covid restrictions ahead of time.
Edge
Edge is touted as “the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere”. It is a uniquely designed suspended platform that dangles in the sky 100 stories up. The unparalleled 360-degree views of New York are simply breathtaking. Guests can also enjoy a glass of champagne as they look out at the city below. General admission to the sky deck is $38. But if you’re not afraid of heights and want something more, read on.
City Climb at Edge
City Climb is billed as the highest open-air building ascent in the world. Climbers (this could be you!) scale the exterior of the skyscraper at altitudes of more than 1,200 feet above ground. The urban climb takes place on a 45° angle staircase that hugs the exterior of the skyscraper at Hudson Yards. Fear not, experts will help you suit up and buckle in to ensure safety. Afterwards, they arrive at the top of the platform sky deck where you can lean out over the edge and look down at the city below (while fully harnessed in). If you’re the only risk-taker in your group, your family and friends can still come along and cheer you on from Edge as you complete the City Climb. Climbs are weather contingent.
Tickets are $185 for City Climb, $38 for spectator tickets.

Trapeze
Ever dream of joining the circus just to fly through the air on a trapeze?! It’s not the circus but you can certainly fly on the trapeze at Trapeze School New York. A session fits you with a safety belt and a few rules and then a little practice and you’ll be up on the trapeze hanging from your knees. The last 30 minutes of every session are dedicated to catching— an instructor hangs from another trapeze and will catch you as you leap from yours! Did we mention adrenaline? But yes, there’s a net below!
In addition to its regular sessions, TSNY now offers mini-intensive trapeze workshops at its Manhattan and Brooklyn locations. Brooklyn offers year round flights at an indoor facility, while the Manhattan school is outdoors only with sessions beginning in April.
The Directions page on TSNY’s site will tell you how to get to either location.
Parkour
If you’ve ever envied James Bond’s moves in Casino Royale, you’ll love the parkour training center at the Brooklyn Zoo. Parkour is a movement style that uses efficient movement to traverse or climb obstacles with flow and ease. The zoo center offers classes to teach proper running, jumping, vaulting and more techniques. Soon you’ll be jumping over objects and flying through the air with the greatest of ease! Privates or group classes are available. And if you’d rather just hang back and watch the amazing parkour feats, that’s always an option, too!

Helicopter Tour
Think you like the rush of being up high and looking way, way down to find the ground? Then a high-altitude chopper ride above Manhattan is for you! It’s a great way to get a bigger geographic perspective on the city, you’ll see the islands and some of its iconic sights such as the Statue of Liberty, the Brooklyn Bridge and the New York Harbor. It’s a one-of-a-kind way to see New York!
Heli NY offers different tours from its helicopters that depart from Manhattan’s southernmost tip.
