From rock bands, to jazz trios, to a solo musician with a guitar, live music is a must while visiting New York City. After visiting iconic spots and strolling around Manhattan, you’ll also want to experience NYC’s nightlife with its great music and drinks. The Big Apple has some of the largest and most historic venues for events and concerts for fans of all musical genres. We list 5 of the best spots for live music in NYC.

Anyway Cafe

The Anyway Cafe opened in 1995 to offer a space for cultivating art, culture and music from the most talented people in New York City. At this venue you can enjoy French/Russian cuisine and authentic, vodka-infused recipes. This little East Village wonder has a charming atmosphere, tasty drinks, and a unique European meets downtown New York vibe. The Anyway Cafe accommodates all ages and styles of live music. Don’t miss it!

Fat Cat

At this Greenwich Village spot, you’ll find a fun vibe all night long. The subterranean bar has everything for entertainment, from live jazz to billiards, ping pong, shuffle boards, and of course, beer, and other libations. But what makes Fat Cat truly special is its tradition of after midnight jazz jam sessions. They also offer latin, classical and world music earlier in the night. The cover charge is only $3 and you’re guaranteed to hear some excellent musicians— you’re in New York City afterall! Check it out!

Bowery Ballroom

The Bowery Ballroom is a famous venue with a cozy ambience. It has a downstairs bar where you can relax, and a music room upstairs that is big enough to house a crowd, but small enough to give optimal views of the band from anywhere. Like many ballroom setups, there is a dance floor on the first level and a balcony on a second with tables/seats that run along the walls. If you want to hear great live music and have a good time with friends, the Bowery Ballroom is a fantastic place to visit while in lower Manhattan. Admission prices for shows are usually in the $20 range. The historic location is near other fun places, where you can pop in for a drink before going to a Bowery Ballroom concert.

Where: Bowery Ballroom; 6 Delancey St, Lower Manhattan (20 min drive from The Lombardy Hotel).

Iconic artists such as Mariah Carey and Joan Baez have performed at the Beacon Theatre.

If you are visiting Central Park or the American Museum of Natural History, the Beacon Theatre is quite close to both. It’s also near great restaurants, ample parks and easy transportation. Seeing a concert at one of the oldest venues in New York City is a must for any bucket list!
