Finding Things To Do On Christmas Day

When you are traveling on Christmas, then it can sometimes be tricky finding places that are open on Christmas Day. And no one wants to spend their Christmas in their hotel room. Plus, if you don’t celebrate Christmas, you don’t want to be waste a day of vacation just because places are closed. We’ve done the research for you. Here are the best of what’s open on Christmas Day.


#1 Bank of America Winter Village at Bryant Park

Find the ultimate winter wonderland at Bryant Park. Ice skating, the holiday market, and the other usual Bryant Park activities await you and your family at this beautiful location. It’s a classic for everyone in NYC.


Schedule: 8am – 10pm

#2 Nitehawk Cinema

This indie theater shows Christmas classics throughout December, including on Christmas Day. Just because you might not be at home doesn’t mean you can’t still follow your holiday traditions. And you even have the option to a delicious meal while you watch your favorite holiday classic!

#3 Museum at Eldridge Street  

While many Jewish institutions and cultural centers are open on December 25th, the Museum on Eldridge Street offers a full program of activities, including an afternoon concert, that your whole family can enjoy. It’s a great opportunity to join your community or learn about another on this special day.


Schedule: 10am – 5pm

Address: 12 Eldridge Street, Lower East Side Manhattan (35 min drive from The Lombardy Hotel)

What to do: Synagogue Tours (12pm, 1pm, 2pm, Scavenger Hunt and Family Art (12pm – 3pm), and Yiddish Concert (3pm)



#4 Central Park Zoo

Your kids will love to visit the animals on Christmas Day, especially because the Central Park Zoo will most likely be less crowded than usual. Help these animals enjoy the holidays and give yourself a unique Christmas experience.

#5 Madame Tussauds

Madame Tussauds even has extended hours on December 25th, so that you and your family can enjoy being as close to celebrities as you’ll probably ever get!  And since this unique museum is near Times Square, there are a ton of other activities your family can do while you’re there.
