New York City officially has five boroughs. How do you know which one to stay in during your vacation?

All of our boroughs have some lovely pros and some cons to consider. Think about the kind of entertainment, culture, and sightseeing you want to do while you’re on vacation. Let’s see where you should book your hotel.

Manhattan

Of course we have to start with the most iconic NYC borough: Manhattan. Manhattan is the heart of the city- it’s where the business happens, where the people meet, and where the subway lines converge.

Manhattan Pros

The number 1 pro of Manhattan is how many things there are to do here. This is where The Lombardy is, after all. You can leave our doorstep and make it to a hundred cafes, more restaurants than you can count, just about every subway line, and dozens of theaters and entertainment venues in minutes.

Manhattan Cons

Manhattan is truly the city that never sleeps. If you are looking for a calm, quiet vacation, then Manhattan might not be the place for you. You’ll never be far from music, lights, sirens, and people if you stay here.

Brooklyn

Brooklyn is famous for its accent and highly-desired brownstones. Brooklyn is a borough with a distinct culture and lots to do- almost as much as Manhattan.

Brooklyn Pros

Brooklyn is another NYC borough where you’ll never be bored. Some of the best restaurants in the country are here. It’s a quick ride from Manhattan and a great place if you’re looking for something a little calmer. It’s also a much more bike-friendly borough, at least compared to Manhattan, which makes for fun and cheap transportation. There’s plenty of iconic parks and destinations, like the Brooklyn Botanical Gardens that you will want to see.

Brooklyn Cons

If you are looking for the stereotypical NYC fast-paced, 24-hour experience, then Brooklyn will make it close, but won’t quite cut it. Fewer restaurants and cafes are staying open till Midnight, for example. It’s more residential and less action-packed.

Queens

Queens is the largest of all the NYC boroughs, has the second-largest population, and is home to both of NYC’s international airports.

Queens Pros

Since Queens pays host to both NYC airports, you will be able to fly in to NYC and arrive to your hotel relatively quickly. Apart from that, Queens is known as being the center of a cultural explosion, especially around music. Think The Ramones and Ella Fitzgerald and you’ll be on the right track.

Queens Cons

The biggest problem with Queens is how far it is from the hype, excitement, and entertainment of Manhattan and Brooklyn. If you’re thinking about visiting Times Square, going to a Broadway show, or scaling the new One World Trade Center, then you’ll face a long subway ride or a prohibitively expensive taxi.

Bronx

The Bronx originated as a mix of European immigrants and evolved to be the home of many immigrants from the Caribbean and African Americans. It has a vibrant urban community.

Bronx Pros

The Bronx is known as the home of hip-hop and a hotbed of Latin music. If you stay here, you’ll also be close to the New York Yankees home stadium, and in a neighborhood that is fiercely proud of the fact.

Bronx Cons

The Bronx is one of the poorest districts in the United States. While the quality of life has been on the rise since the 80s, it still lacks some of the luster of Manhattan, which many visitors crave.

Staten Island

Staten Island is the home of dozens of films and an emerging art scene. It is an island between Brooklyn and New Jersey and known as an affordable place to live by many New Yorkers.

Staten Island Pros

This island is the home of a unique mix of historic preservation and new art. It’s a place where you’ll feel like you can breathe- something that you don’t always feel in the more populated boroughs.

Staten Island Cons

Staten Islanders often call themselves the forgotten borough, as they don’t quite feel like they’re represented by the NYC government. This is an indication that Staten Island won’t quite feel like the New York City you are expecting.
